CROSS A THRESHOLD

Ausstellung 01. - 30. September 2015

After the "Summer-Exhibitions" with 7 artists from 7 countries, BURN-IN presents Austrian artists in September and October.

On the subject of CROSSING A THRESHOLD, Ernst Platt will be showing his reduced-figure oil paintings in September.

Platt's example documents beyond doubt that even the most difficult situations can be positively shaped with art. The courageous crossing of the threshold opens up new horizons in both private and professional environments.

The artistic intervention always plays the decisive role in all BURN-IN offers. The current coaching formats aim in the direction of TeamBuilding, corporate communication and employer branding. Fruitful approaches that create sustainable relationships.

"Platt manages to awaken the deepest feelings, which probably exist latently in all people, but which they usually resist as "unrealistic stuff". And yet this "unreal" may have a higher degree of reality than the banal stuff surrounding us."

Wilfried Daim, psychologist, psychotherapist and avid art collector

artistic contemplation

In completely clear oil painting Platt presents his figures as if on a stage. The marble body forms appear haptic, almost sculptural, as in Greek sculpture in movement and counter-movement, but show no muscles. His surreal style is strongly reduced and suggests - again a comparison from sculpture - the works of Hans Arp.

Some paintings show reduced and abstracted body fragments, faces rarely appear, the anonymity of the figures is preserved. Simulated togetherness instead of loneliness revolves around fantasies, around the ego of man and his body. Through the color scheme, the forms seem cool, but still erotic.

To increase the interior space, the artist chooses reduced, mainly blue color. Some bodies lie on hard grates and are constricted by walls, others, floating refer to thoughts that are not in the room, but outside.

The later paintings change: the grate becomes a mattress, the outer walls disappear, although the spatiality remains. The moon can be seen in the dark night sky. Forearms become supporting columns and colorful ribbons form the background to a depiction of mother and children. A dissolution of confinement and cool color has begun.

Platt's example documents beyond doubt that even the most difficult situations can be shaped positively with art. The courageous crossing of the threshold opens new horizons in both private and professional environments.

Ernst Platt

Ernst Platt began painting in 1997, at the beginning of a long period of imprisonment, and shows his innermost thoughts with his pictures. Painting is therapy for him. He uses painting to cope with his dramatic experiences from childhood and adolescence and his time in prison. Since 1997 he has painted more than 450 pictures. He has been living in freedom since 2005. Since 2000, his sponsors have made it possible for him to exhibit at various venues, such as the ballroom of the Mariahilf district council and the Melk monastery.
