Destruction as the cause of becoming

Ausstellung 02. - 30. November 2017

BURN-IN met Stefan Korinek in the spring of 2017 at a vernissage in the BernARTgasse studio, where he presented his "LichtGestalten" with Matthias Kretschmer. The subsequent studio visit in Stockerau and the exciting interview convinced us. Together we developed the exhibition concept for the BURN-IN exhibition DIE DESTRUKTION ALS URSACHE DES WERDENS.

"The knowledge of transience is a particularly important concern for me that I like to show with the etching, with the patina. Often drawing and patination go hand in hand, and only when it is INCORRECT to my sensation, I can begin to break through the copper. The preliminaries to the first strike into the sheet metal often take a really long time:Many mantras with the request for assistance, long negotiations with myself, the thoughts of the I Ching. Then the first cuttings, everything comes into flow, and the destruction procures space and becomes manifest."

Stefan Korinek

Korinek's light objects are based on MANDALAS, which have a magical or religious meaning in the cult practice of Hinduism and Buddhism. In square or circular form, they are always oriented to a center.
The symbolism of a mandala is to aim directly at the unconscious, so that through certain colors and shapes certain areas of the psyche are to be addressed and stimulated.

The repetitive recitation of MANTRAS can serve to release mental and spiritual energies. In the form of a word, syllable, or verse, mantras are used in Buddhism, Hinduism, and yoga during meditation or prayer. As a saying, song, or hymn, mantric forms of prayer also play a significant role in the spirituality of Eastern Christianity.

In the works of Stefan Korinek, all forms have a deeper meaning. As in the oldest Chinese text, the philosophical wisdom book I-GING, in which each stroke character has a concrete meaning. Carl Gustav Jung, one of the pioneers of modern depth psychology and founder of analytical psychology, who was on friendly terms with the German sinologist Richard Wilhelm, held the I-Ging in high esteem and saw in it a way of accessing the unconscious.

The artist also tries to represent dreams in his works and bring clarity to his sensibility. He recites mantras and mentally engages with the I Ching to enter a state of creativity.

Light art

Light art as a nourishing elixir of life!

BURN-IN relies on light art. The luminar pictorial has been gaining in importance worldwide for several years and finds "glowing" followers, in many cases outside the classic art collector spectrum. The aggressive presentation of the genre at major international fairs, in renowned museums and in "the" top hot spots of art is fueling this trend. This year's Biennale contribution Infinity and beyond by Brigitte Kowanz attracted much attention and media coverage in Venice. For many years, the works of Ólafur Elíasson, Waltraud Cooper, Ingo Maurer, James Turrell, Dan Flavin or Keith Sonnier have been igniting the interest of art lovers, as they leave behind highly striking traces of light.

Stefan Korinek's works, precisely crafted on copper plates with hammer and burin and backlit with LEDs, exude a very special charm. Dreams, mandals and mantras play the significant role for the Austrian artist. What is particularly appealing is the option of a daily new staging of the familiar room situation. Always perfectly coordinated to the respective moods of the viewer. The innovative LED technology creates a wonderful aura around the works of the luminarist.

.

BURN-IN recommends light art. There is much to be said for this genre, which has a strong emotionalizing effect through the uniqueness of the lighting moods and always enchants anew. Because light art sets clear accents, plays with light and shadow and documents the independent positions of the art collector in an extremely subtle, very nuanced and independent way. Very personal statements in spherical living or working worlds are created.

The light images score with their radiant lightness in private and corporate contexts (corporate collections). The return on culture comes from the sensual visual and haptic enjoyment of the image, which sparks a stunning signal effect and has a strong attention-grabbing effect (branding). Light art as successful investments, both from a purely monetary and non-monetary perspective.

Light commissioned art for indoor and outdoor. Special space situations and needs require individual solutions. BURN-IN offers in cooperation with Stefan Korinek individual commissioned art as a nourishing elixir of life!

BURN-IN is looking forward to another concert with Fritz Novotny and the ReformARTnonet. Details can be found here.
