Impressions ART-WEEK New York

Masses of art enthusiasts visit New York every March for the ARMORY-WEEK art fairs to see the latest trends in fine art. There's a fair for every taste, but most of all, the week thrives on the impressive ARMORY-SHOW on Pier 94.

In the Metropolitan Pavilion, the SCOPE, which has graced the fair week since 2000, showcases both established and emerging artists and invites brand new galleries to make their art fair debut.

In three floors of Spring Studios, the INDEPENDENT, once a young hip fair, offers more and more established galleries. The larger booths on the 6th floor in particular not only display interesting art, but are tremendously enhanced by the views through the large windows.

As soon as you enter the transport lift, it becomes clear that NADA is a different kind of fair. Warehouse charm accommodates a lot of young art, also the numerous visitors belong mainly to the young generation.

Under the direction of Benjamin Genocchio, ARMORY SHOW has attracted 71 new exhibitors and returnees. New formats such as INSIGHT with solo and two-person exhibitions and PLATFORM for large-scale sculptures and installations enrich the generously broken-up spaces. This also provides comfortable passageways through the booths of the 209 exhibiting galleries for the incredible amount of visitors. The plaza in the center of Pier 94 impresses with an installation by Yayoi Kusama featuring large red sculptures with white polka dots in an artificial garden landscape. The installation, with an edition of 5 works, sold for $1 million to an international collector. Although the pace of sales has slowed, the atmosphere of the fair days shows a strong revival of New York Square.

"Times of political turmoil can open up opportunities for art dealers as troubled buyers seek solace in art" - a statement from Sean Kelly, whose booth sold out several times.

Business Meetings & Artist Talks

As part of the BURN-IN Go International Offensive, we managed to cultivate many personal contacts with, among others, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Foreign Trade Center NY, Leo Vazquez (Creative Placemaking | MASNYC) and Howard Moskowitz (Mind Genomics), who invited us to breakfast at the legendary Harvard Business Club - an experience!

In addition to numerous artist talks, and this was a particularly great honor for us, we received a multi-day invitation to the hallowed halls of Prof. Paul Z. Rotterdam in North Blenheim, which will remain in our memories forever. Rotterdam was born in Austria, studied in Vienna, represented Austria at the Tokyo Biennale, taught at Harvard University and in San Antonio, and has lived and worked for many years in New York and Texas.
