Beyond the Limelight
by Karim Rahoma
In the vibrant world of film festivals, where the spotlight shines intensely and the red carpet defines the pantheon of contemporary fame, there are moments that slip through the gaps of the flash. They are those moments that Karim Rahoma captures in his latest photographic art exhibition, UNSCRIPTED - Beyond the Limelight.
Rahoma's work is an ode to unobserved moments that are often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of glamorous life. As an actor and photographer with a deep understanding of both worlds, he takes us on a journey that spans a broad arc between the artificial, glowing surface and the unadulterated, authentic personality. In the process, his images reveal not only the physical presence of the stars, but also their vulnerability, their dreams, their fears and their triumphs. From Margot Robbie to Alain Delon, Rahoma's camera surprises with the unexpected. His work is a dance between light and shadow, between the public and the private, between what is shown and what is hidden. It is by no means mainstream, not inflationary cardboard jazz. The works are windows into the souls of these icons.
The exhibition presents 60 art photographs, each image in a limited edition of only 10. It is this exclusivity, coupled with Rahoma's inimitable intuition and craftsmanship, that makes UNSCRIPTED a must-see for any art or film enthusiast.
Alberto Barbera, director of the Venice Film Biennale, aptly describes Karim Rahoma: "His portraits attempt to reveal the soul. I think this is the highest praise that can be given to a portrait photographer."

I met Karim at the Venice Film Festival a few years ago when he started attending it as a professional photographer. From the beginning I was impressed by the quality and originality of his photos. They are not like the usual ones you see reproduced thousands of times in the media.
... His portraits are not content just to offer the viewer a beautiful representation of a character: they try to reveal its soul. I think that's the highest praise you can give to a portrait photographer. Karim is one of the best!

Authenticity beyond the spotlight
The red carpet. The spotlight. The stares, the hands, the cameras, all on the hunt, the hunt for shine, the hunt for appearances. Here, in this world of striving, of desire, that is where Karim Rahoma presents us with UNSCRIPTED - Beyond the Limelight, an exhibition that makes us realize that we will never see everything. We see the glamor, but do we see the souls?
60 works, 60 moments broken, as if in a mirror, into ten pieces, ten fragments of ourselves. What do we see when we look into the face of a star? Do we see ourselves? Do we see them? Or do we see only the shadow of our desire?
The sitters are universally known, and yet they are strangers to us. Because the spotlight blinds, it deceives, it hides. Rahoma takes us by the hand, he leads us behind the curtain, he shows us what we do not or also want to see, what we can not see. He shows us the truth, and it is now and then brutal, raw and real.
Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci, Dustin Hoffman and all the others, they are not just actors on a screen, but people in Rahoma's images. Lost, searching, hoping. In a world saturated with images, Rahoma calls us to look more closely, to look deeper, to feel, to uncover the real you.
Thus, in the summer of 2023, the BURN-IN Gallery at the Gerngross will be transformed into an incomparable venue that will provide a lasting glow to the stars in an imposing spectacle of authentic light.
